Why I Created RenalRenewal
During my kidney journey, I wanted information that explained not only the medical facts but also what they meant in everyday life. Understanding treatment is one challenge; learning to manage appointments, medication routines, recovery, uncertainty, and changes to family life is another.
I created RenalRenewal.com to bring these perspectives together. The website combines my experience as a kidney transplant recipient with educational information intended to help patients and families understand the stages of kidney disease and transplantation more clearly.
My Kidney Journey: From Dialysis to Transplant
My journey included a diagnosis of end-stage renal disease in my early thirties, emergency hospital admissions, hemodialysis, dialysis access procedures, transplant evaluation, and treatment for Hepatitis C during the transplant process. In August 2023, I received a living-donor kidney transplant from my younger brother.
Transplantation changed my life, but it also began a new phase of medication management, laboratory monitoring, follow-up appointments, and long-term care.
